Gwangju City Named "Outstanding" for Third Consecutive Year in Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Intensive Safety Inspection

Gwangju City has been selected as an outstanding institution for the third consecutive year in the nationwide evaluation of the "2025 Intensive Safety Inspection" conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The effectiveness of the program has been attributed to joint on-site inspections by public and private sectors, the direct participation of the institution's head, and the implementation of follow-up measures.

Gwangju City Named "Outstanding" for Third Consecutive Year in Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Intensive Safety Inspection Kang Gijeong, Mayor of Gwangju, visited Hanam Bridge in Gwangsan District on the afternoon of May 20 to conduct the "2025 Intensive Safety Inspection" together with the Gwangju City Public-Private Joint Inspection Team. From April 14 to June 13 this year, over a period of 61 days, Gwangju City inspected 498 aging and hazardous infrastructure sites together with autonomous districts, public corporations, private experts, and civic groups. During the inspection process, Mayor Kang Gijeong visited key sites in person to check on safety management practices and lead citizen participation campaigns, playing an active role on-site as the institution's head.

This evaluation was based on 24 indicators across 14 areas, including the effectiveness of safety inspections. The level of interest shown by the institution's head, the results of on-site inspections, and the implementation of follow-up actions were all comprehensively reflected. Gwangju City explained that it systematically managed the results of follow-up measures after inspections, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of the inspections.

The Intensive Safety Inspection is a nationwide disaster prevention policy implemented by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety since 2015, designed to assess the overall state of safety management in society through joint inspections by the public and private sectors.

Kim Junyoung, Director of Gwangju Citizen Safety Office, stated, "Our inspection system, which prioritizes the lives and safety of citizens, has been recognized nationwide," adding, "We will continue proactive disaster prevention activities together with our citizens."
