Sungshin Women's University Sues Students Over Spray Paint Protest Against Male Admissions

Sungshin Women's University has reportedly filed a police complaint against students who staged a protest involving spray painting, opposing the university's shift toward engineering, accusing them of property damage.

The Seongbuk Police Station in Seoul announced on the 24th that it had received a complaint from Sungshin Women's University regarding the students' alleged property damage and is currently investigating the case.

According to reports, the police have identified three students as suspects through CCTV analysis and other means and have placed them under investigation.

The students are accused of spray painting campus buildings and floors in November of last year, demanding the withdrawal of the 2025 special admissions guidelines for international students, which stated that all genders could apply to the School of International Studies without gender distinction.

Sungshin Women's University is said to have spent approximately 400 million won to restore most of the affected areas.

Meanwhile, Dongduk Women's University, which had similarly filed a complaint against students in a related controversy, withdrew the complaint and submitted a non-punishment request in May of this year.

However, since charges such as property damage and obstruction of work are not subject to non-prosecution upon victim’s request, 22 students were referred to the prosecution.
