The city of Mokpo, South Jeolla Province, announced that the 2025 Kim Daejung Marathon, held at Mokpo Sports Complex on November 23, concluded successfully.
This year’s event saw participation from approximately 5,200 people, including members from 18 different clubs, reaffirming its status as the region’s representative marathon event.
The marathon began at 9 a.m., with participants running different courses: the 5km course headed toward the Daeyang Industrial Complex; the 10km course included a turnaround at the Sapjin Industrial Complex, passed through the Daeyang Industrial Complex, and finished at the sports complex; and the half marathon course extended to the turnaround point at Onggeum Neighborhood Park.
The organizing committee set up water stations and ambulances at key locations such as the main venue and turnaround points, and coordinated with the Mokpo Police Station, riot police, model drivers’ association, and citizen police to control traffic along each section. With thorough route management and safety measures, the event was completed without any incidents.
A city official stated, “We hold this marathon every year during the fourth week of November to honor the spirit of peace and harmony of former President Kim Daejung,” adding, “This year was especially meaningful due to the high level of citizen participation.”
On the same day, the 38th Superintendent’s Cup Marathon commemorating the Student Independence Movement was also held, making it a large-scale event with a combined total of about 10,000 participants across both marathons.
