An elementary school student drowned and died in a public bathhouse in Yeongcheon, North Gyeongsang Province.

According to the North Gyeongsang Fire Department and other authorities on November 24, a report was received at around 4:58 p.m. the previous day that a nine-year-old boy, referred to as A, had fallen into the water at a bathhouse in Seosan-dong, Yeongcheon. Emergency responders who arrived at the scene found A in cardiac arrest and immediately transported him to the hospital, but he ultimately died.

It was reported that A's father, who was accompanying him at the time, was unable to watch him briefly while receiving a body scrub. The bathtub where the accident occurred was approximately 50 centimeters deep, and A was said to have had no underlying illnesses or health problems.

The police are investigating the exact cause of death and the circumstances of the accident based on witness statements and an autopsy.

Child drowning accidents in bathhouses and swimming pools continue to be reported. In January of this year, a five-year-old boy, referred to as B, was found in a state of drowning in a 1.1-meter-deep bath at a public bathhouse in Cheongdo County, North Gyeongsang Province. He was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest but ultimately died.
