Opportunities for Overseas Expansion in Aviation and Smart City Sectors
On November 20, Joo Kyu-il, Mayor of Jinju City, continued his overseas sales and marketing activities by visiting Can Tho University, the national comprehensive university in Can Tho City, Vietnam, and meeting with President Tran Trung Tinh to discuss corporate cooperation.
The meeting was attended by the president of Can Tho University, deans of various colleges, the deputy director of the Global Education Department, and key stakeholders, as well as a delegation from Vietnam's CT Group, a private technology company specializing in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and semiconductors. They exchanged opinions on cooperation in the UAV and AI sectors with Jinju-based companies, including ANH Structure (CEO Ahn Hyunsoo).
CT Group expressed strong interest in collaborating with Jinju companies that possess relevant technologies, noting the high demand for UAV applications in fisheries-such as water environment monitoring, fish school detection, and fish farm management-as well as in agriculture.
Additionally, it was suggested that since Jinju is home to numerous advanced technology companies specializing in satellite research, video imaging, and AI-based analytical technologies, there are opportunities for CT Group to explore technological cooperation and joint projects in the smart agriculture and fisheries sectors it is pursuing.
Furthermore, with the ongoing plan to establish a large-scale aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) complex in Can Tho City, there is potential for increased participation from global aviation maintenance companies, including Vietnamese carriers such as Vietnam Airlines and VietJet. This is expected to create new opportunities for collaboration with companies based in Jinju.
Meanwhile, regarding Can Tho City's interest in building a smart city, Jinju City shared its key initiatives, such as being selected for the national smart city project and establishing and operating an integrated platform, highlighting the potential for technological and policy exchanges between the two cities. Mayor Joo proposed that officials from Can Tho City and Can Tho University visit Jinju to directly benchmark Jinju's smart city initiatives, suggesting the possibility of expanding exchanges through future practical consultations.
In particular, the president of Can Tho University, who holds a master's and doctoral degree in electrical engineering from Gyeongsang National University, has a close connection to Jinju. He expressed hope that this meeting would serve as an opportunity to further expand practical exchanges and cooperation among Jinju City, Can Tho City, Gyeongsang National University, and Can Tho University.
