"More Than Half of Single Men and Women Say They Could Lend Money"
"A Difference of About 1.49 Million Won Between Men and Women"

A survey has revealed a clear difference in perceptions between men and women regarding financial transactions between couples.

According to the "Second Half Relationship Perception Survey" conducted by the marriage information company Gayeon on November 21, 58.8% of single men and women responded that they would be willing to lend money to their partner. In contrast, 37% said they would not lend money, regardless of the length of the relationship or how long they had been dating. The survey was conducted among 500 single men and women aged 25 to 39.

Among those who said they would be willing to lend money, the most common reason was "if we are engaged to be married" (30.8%). This was followed by "if we have been together for a long time" (19.4%), and "even if we have not been dating long, I can lend money" (8.6%). The top reason for not lending money was "I do not want to have any financial transactions with my partner for any reason" (64.9%). This was followed by "I do not want the relationship to become transactional" (24.9%), "I do not have extra money" (4.9%), and "I am worried I might not get the money back" (4.3%).

The average amount considered acceptable for lending by those open to financial transactions was 3,729,800 won, but there was a significant difference between men and women. For men, the average amount was 4,391,200 won, while for women it was 2,903,100 won, a difference of about 1,490,000 won. By age group, those in their 20s reported an average of 3,204,100 won, while those in their 30s reported 3,989,000 won.

Among those who answered that they could not lend money, 64.9% said it was because they did not want to have any financial transactions with their partner. This was followed by "I am uncomfortable because the relationship might become transactional" (24.9%), "I do not have extra money" (4.9%), and "I am worried I might not get the money back" (4.3%). This suggests that concerns about the relationship changing were more significant than worries about financial loss.
