Gwangjin District Pilots Real Estate Acquisition Tax Chatbot Developed by Tax Office Official

Advance Eligibility Check for Acquisition Tax Reductions Available

Gwangjin District in Seoul (District Mayor Kim Kyungho) is piloting the nation’s first KakaoTalk-based “Real Estate Acquisition Tax Information Chatbot,” which also informs users about possible acquisition tax reductions.

This system was introduced to quickly respond to the surge in acquisition tax inquiries following the re-designation of regulated areas on October 16, and to ensure that residents can easily access tax-related information 24 hours a day. The chatbot was developed directly by an acquisition tax officer from the Tax Division 1 of the Gwangjin District Office.

Through the chatbot, citizens can check in advance whether they are eligible for real estate acquisition tax reductions. This feature, introduced for the first time among local governments nationwide, allows users to easily find out about possible tax reductions for childbirth, child-rearing, and first-time home purchases. The service also provides detailed guidance on the required documents for each type of acquisition, significantly improving convenience for residents.

This service incorporates the latest real estate policies and related laws in real time. By entering basic information such as the number of houses owned, it automatically calculates the estimated acquisition tax amount. It is linked to the Seoul ETAX payment page and also provides directions to the tax office.

Gwangjin District plans to conduct the pilot program with 891 certified real estate agents in the district until December 15. After collecting feedback from the field, the district will expand the official service starting in January next year.

The usage method is simple. By searching for “Seoul Gwangjin District Office Tax Division 1” on KakaoTalk and adding the channel as a friend, users can immediately access the chatbot service. The district plans to promptly update the information whenever major real estate policies change and to connect users directly with a staff member through the provided contact information if consultation is needed.

District Mayor Kim Kyungho stated, “While some other districts have similar systems, Gwangjin District is the first to offer a chatbot that checks eligibility for tax reductions in advance. We will continue to improve administrative services through proactive governance and realize digital administration that residents can truly experience.”
