Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province has expressed its determination to focus its administrative resources on ensuring that the preliminary feasibility study for the extension of the Bundang Line passes. Yongin City to Closely Cooperate with Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport for Bundang Line Extension Feasibility Study Approval

On November 20, Mayor Lee Sangil of Yongin stated, "The extension of the Bundang Line is a key project essential not only for improving transportation conditions in southern Gyeonggi Province but also for the development of the semiconductor industry. We will work with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to revise the plan to enhance the project's economic viability and do our utmost to ensure that necessary administrative procedures, such as the preliminary feasibility study, proceed smoothly."

The Bundang Line extension project is a metropolitan railway initiative that will connect the 16.9-kilometer section from Giheung Station on the Bundang Line to Osan. The total project cost is 1.6015 trillion won, and a preliminary feasibility study commissioned by the Korea National Railway was completed last year.

In particular, expectations for early implementation of the project are rising as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has accepted an "active review" recommendation for the Bundang Line extension project, which was raised during the National Assembly's review of next year's budget proposal.

The Ministry is currently working with Yongin City and other stakeholders to supplement the project plan in preparation for applying for the next step, the preliminary feasibility study. The city has announced its intention to continue close cooperation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to ensure that necessary administrative procedures are carried out and the project can move forward.

The city has maintained that the Bundang Line extension must proceed quickly to resolve traffic congestion in the Bora-dong area of Giheung-gu, to support the 20 trillion won semiconductor investment around the Samsung Electronics Giheung Campus, and to facilitate smooth investment activities by major semiconductor equipment companies such as SEMES and Lam Research. In September, Mayor Lee delivered a written request to Minister Kim Yoonduk of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, calling for the prompt advancement of both the Bundang Line extension project and the Southern Gyeonggi Metropolitan Railway project.
