The Department of Clinical Pathology at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology swept major awards at the Autumn Conference of the Korean Society for Biomedical Laboratory Sciences.
Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Youngdo) announced on the 20th that the Department of Clinical Pathology (Head of Department Kim Hyeran) received top honors at the 31st Autumn Conference of the Korean Society for Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, held on November 1 at the Innovation Campus of Daegu Haany University. Second-year student Eunjin Kim and third-year student Dasol Hwang were awarded the Best Oral Presentation Award and the Excellent Poster Presentation Award, respectively.
This research was conducted with support from the 2025 Busan Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE) Industry-Academia Joint Technology Development Project. Both students, as undergraduates, achieved outstanding results alongside professional researchers.
Eunjin Kim gave an oral presentation on the topic "NUP205 as a Prognostic Biomarker in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Insights from Comprehensive Bioinformatics Analysis."
This study, which analyzed the expression patterns and prognostic value of the nuclear pore complex protein NUP205 in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSC) from multiple perspectives based on bioinformatics, was recognized by the judging panel for its high level of completion that exceeded typical undergraduate standards.
Additionally, Dasol Hwang presented a poster titled "Antibacterial and Antifungal Activities of Urushiol-Free Ethanol Extract from Rhus vernicifera," which investigated the antibacterial and antifungal effects of urushiol-free ethanol extract from lacquer tree, a natural antimicrobial material. The research was highly evaluated for suggesting the potential for developing eco-friendly functional materials in the future.
Professor Kim Hyeran of the Department of Clinical Pathology at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology stated, "It is highly meaningful that undergraduate students designed their own research and achieved outstanding results at an academic conference," adding, "This achievement is the result of the inquiry-based education system and the industry-academia collaboration capabilities of the Department of Clinical Pathology at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology."
