"Set a Fire, Face Penalties" ... Goseong County Enforces Zero-Tolerance for Illegal Burning

Goseong County in Gyeongnam Province will intensively crack down on illegal burning during the forest fire prevention period to prevent fires caused by the illegal incineration of agricultural by-products and household waste.

"Set a Fire, Face Penalties" ... Goseong County Enforces Zero-Tolerance for Illegal Burning Goseong County Office, Gyeongnam Province.

The county has announced a zero-tolerance policy for illegal waste burning as the risk of forest fires increases due to dry weather. It will strictly enforce penalties, actively promote free disposal of agricultural waste, and implement an agricultural by-product shredding project, making every effort to prevent forest fires.

During this intensive crackdown period, the county plans to eradicate illegal burning by imposing fines of up to 1 million won per case in accordance with the Waste Management Act, following a zero-tolerance principle. Even before the start of this crackdown, a total of 23 cases of illegal burning had been detected recently, resulting in fines totaling 9.25 million won.

Choi Jeongran, head of the Environmental Division, emphasized, "The act of burning agricultural by-products or household waste must be completely eradicated," and urged, "Please abandon the complacent notion that you only need to avoid the crackdown period. We hope that a mature civic consciousness will take root, with residents disposing of waste in designated bags at specified locations."
