Hwasun County Wins Grand Prize in “Our Neighborhood Welfare Task Force” Performance Evaluation

Hwasun County has received the grand prize in the “2025 Our Neighborhood Welfare Task Force Performance Evaluation,” organized by Jeollanam-do Province.

According to the county on November 20, this award marks the first achievement for Hwasun County since the system was introduced in 2019. The county’s field-oriented welfare administration and resident-focused services have now been officially recognized at the provincial level.

The evaluation, conducted among 22 cities and counties in Jeollanam-do, comprehensively assessed operational performance, implementation of specialized projects, and efforts to disseminate best practices.

The Hwasun County Our Neighborhood Welfare Task Force is composed of 14 teams and 271 members. The task force has consistently provided welfare services closely linked to residents’ daily lives, swiftly addressing inconveniences faced by county residents.

In particular, the “Hwasun Sapyeong Laundry Room” project, promoted as a pledge of the county’s eighth popularly elected administration, was highly praised as a tailored welfare model for vulnerable groups and local residents. The project provides blanket laundry services while also checking in on residents and offering emotional support.

This year, the county supported a total of 514 households through the welfare task force (472 households received daily inconvenience improvement services, and 42 households received living stability subsidies). During the summer, the county partnered with the 119 Life Safety Patrol Team from the fire department to strengthen activities such as improving the living environment of seniors and preventing fires in old houses.

Building on these achievements, the county is operating an “integrated support system” that proactively identifies and addresses daily inconveniences and seeks out welfare blind spots in advance.

Especially from this month through February next year, the county is focusing on identifying and supporting vulnerable groups such as single elderly households and people with disabilities during the winter season, providing assistance with heating facilities and improving old houses for households in crisis.

County Governor Koo Bokgyu stated, “This award is the result of the joint efforts of our residents and task force members. The welfare task force has grown into a safety net that extends a helping hand to neighbors. We will continue to realize ‘a welfare-oriented Hwasun where residents are happy’ through a meticulous, field-oriented welfare system.”
