Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on November 19 that it has been selected as the top local government for the second consecutive year in the "2025 Creating a Clean Gyeonggi" evaluation conducted by Gyeonggi Province.

The evaluation combined a presentation of best practices for reducing municipal solid waste (qualitative assessment) with a quantitative assessment based on 10 indicators in the municipal solid waste sector.

Hwaseong City explained that it achieved excellent results in various areas aimed at creating a pleasant living environment, including reducing the amount of municipal solid waste generated, increasing the recycling rate, promoting and educating to prevent illegal activities, and establishing infrastructure for separated waste collection.

In particular, the city collaborated with 29 towns, townships, and neighborhoods to promote the "Creating a Dignified and Clean City Together with Citizens" initiative. Through activities such as inspections of businesses regulated for single-use product usage, revitalizing the "Happy Holssi Adoption Project," and presenting best practices, Hwaseong City received high marks for its citizen-participatory resource circulation programs.

Lee Byungseop, Director of the Resource Circulation Division of Hwaseong City, said, "We will continue to create a clean urban environment by fostering a sustainable resource circulation culture together with our citizens."
