"Hopeful for Early December"
Former President Yoon Seok-yeol and his wife, Kim Gun-hee, who have been notified by the special prosecutor Min Jung-ki's team investigating allegations related to Kim Gun-hee to appear for questioning next week, have stated that they will not be able to attend on the scheduled day.
According to legal circles on November 18, the legal representatives of former President Yoon and Mrs. Kim sent a letter to the special prosecutor's team by mail earlier that morning, explaining the reasons for their absence.
Former President Yoon cited a court schedule, while Mrs. Kim cited deteriorating health as their respective reasons for not attending. They conveyed that they could appear in early December.
Previously, the special prosecutor’s team had requested Mrs. Kim to appear as a suspect on November 24 and former President Yoon on November 26 for questioning.
The special prosecutor’s team is expected to investigate Mrs. Kim over allegations that she received expensive gifts in exchange for influence-peddling and personnel requests from former Deputy Chief Prosecutor Kim Sang-min, Seohi Construction Chairman Lee Bong-gwan, and robot dog entrepreneur Seo Seong-bin. Former President Yoon is also set to be questioned as an accomplice, as Mrs. Kim allegedly received public opinion poll results worth 270 million won from Myung Tae-kyun.
The special prosecutor’s team had planned to question Mrs. Kim on November 24 regarding the so-called “influence-peddling allegations” and to confirm whether former President Yoon was involved. However, these plans have inevitably been disrupted. If former President Yoon complies with the summons, it will be the first time he appears before the special prosecutor’s team investigating Kim Gun-hee.
