Kim Geonhee Special Prosecutor Requests 4-Year Prison Term for 'Geomancer Broker'... First Special Investigation Case Concluded

Lee Appeals for Consideration Due to Cerebral Infarction

The special prosecutor's team investigating Kim Geonhee has requested a prison sentence for a broker who was indicted on charges of profiting alongside geomancer Jeon Seongbae. This is the first case among the three major special prosecutor teams (Insurrection, Kim Geonhee, and Private Chae) to conclude its trial proceedings.

On the 14th, during the final hearing for Lee, held by the 21st Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Lee Hyunbok), the special prosecutor's team requested a four-year prison sentence and a forfeiture of 400 million won for violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (acceptance of brokerage fees).

The special prosecutor's team explained the reasoning behind the sentencing request, stating, "This is a serious corruption crime involving the acceptance of 400 million won for the purpose of solicitation and brokerage. While acting as the closest aide to geomancer Jeon, who is close to the presidential couple, Lee pursued personal gain, with Kim Geonhee reportedly saying that Jeon held power. The acceptance of money and valuables was revealed as part of this pattern of behavior."

Lee's defense argued, "The crime of accepting brokerage fees cannot be established based merely on vague expectations, atmosphere, or nuance. There must be clear and specific details about what was requested in relation to a particular case. Since the elements of the crime have not been proven, we assert that Lee is not guilty."

In his final statement, Lee appealed, "I have been detained for about four months and have learned a lot. I am currently suffering from cerebral infarction, and I hope the court will take this into consideration."

The court will deliver its verdict on Lee at 10 a.m. on the 8th of next month.

Lee was indicted on charges of accepting 400 million won in exchange for brokering trial-related solicitations, claiming that if he asked Jeon-who is close to the presidential couple, influential politicians from the People Power Party, and high-ranking legal professionals-he could secure an acquittal in court.
