Goheung County in South Jeolla Province announced on November 14 that it has supported the remodeling of vacant houses in Sado Village, Yeongnam-myeon, as part of the Chwido·Geumsahang Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project, to accommodate eight Filipino seasonal workers.

This remodeling project was carried out through the "2025 Summer University CCYP (College Club) United Fishing Village Volunteer Camp in Goheung" program.

To facilitate the program, vacant houses in Sado Village, Yeongnam-myeon, were provided rent-free, while anchor organizations of the Chwido·Geumsahang project in Goheung County contributed essential construction skills and sponsorship funds.

The newly created accommodation has been named "Goheung Baramchae," a suggestion by the university students who participated in the remodeling. The name reflects the shared hope of the project participants to support the fishing industry, which is the foundation of the village, and to foster a sense of community between migrant workers and local residents as they work together to overcome the crisis of population decline.

"Goheung Baramchae" has been equipped with new basic amenities such as heating and cooling systems, water supply, and laundry facilities, as well as newly installed wireless internet. A guidebook created by the students is also available, providing information on accommodation management and village life. Unlike other foreign worker accommodations, this space has been designed exclusively for migrant workers, resulting in an enthusiastic response from the residents.

County Governor Gong Youngmin stated, "Goheung Baramchae is not just about creating accommodation; it is the result of collaboration, with local residents offering long-vacant houses rent-free and the private sector investing resources to improve the living environment for foreign workers. We hope this initiative will serve as a sustainable model for fishing village communities where seasonal workers and local residents can live together in harmony."
