A Father Opens a Street Food Stall Near Campus After His Daughter's Complaints
The story of a "daughter-obsessed" father who quit his job and traveled as far as 900 km to open a street food stall near his daughter's university, after she said she missed home-cooked meals, is drawing attention.
On November 11 (local time), the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on the story of Li Bingdi, a sophomore at Jilin Normal University in Jilin Province, China. Li Bingdi complained that the food at her school cafeteria was unsanitary and did not taste like home-cooked meals.

In response, her father, who had been running a restaurant in Tianjin, immediately quit his work and went to southern China to learn how to cook fried rice and noodle dishes. Last October, he opened a street food stall near the main gate of his daughter's university.
At his stall, Li Bingdi's father sold fried rice and noodles. On his first day of business, he managed to sell only seven sets. Li Bingdi said, "My father's earnings were less than the 70 yuan (about 14,000 won) I made from tutoring."
Feeling sorry for her father, Li Bingdi shared their story on the school community. She wrote, "My father prepares clean food and is seeking advice on how to improve his business performance."
Surprisingly, the next day, many people-including students and teachers from Li Bingdi's university as well as local residents-came to line up at her father's stall. As the number of customers grew, Li Bingdi spent several weeks helping her father.
Li Bingdi said, "Thanks to the help of so many people, my father is working with a warm heart," adding, "His goal is not to make a lot of money, but to take care of me near my school."
Indeed, after Li Bingdi's mother passed away from leukemia a few years ago, she and her father have relied on each other. When she was deciding which city to attend university in, her father promised to follow her wherever she went. He kept that promise. Li Bingdi said, "Some people say my father's love is as great as a mountain, but to me, my father's love is as warm as the sun."
After hearing their story, local netizens responded warmly, saying, "A father's pure love for his daughter is truly touching," "Since his daughter is eating the food, it must be very hygienic. I would trust it," and "What a wonderful family."
