At approximately 7:07 a.m. on November 11, a 2-ton class coastal composite fishing vessel and a 4-ton class diving fishing vessel collided in the waters near Daejukdo and Geoga Bridge in Gangseo-gu, Busan.
As a result of the accident, the captain of the 2-ton vessel, identified as Mr. A, sustained a laceration to the head.
All three crew members aboard the 4-ton vessel were reported to be unharmed.
Upon receiving a distress call via the very high frequency digital selective calling (VHF DSC) radio equipment on the fishing vessel, the Changwon Coast Guard immediately dispatched a patrol vessel, coastal rescue boats from the Sinhang and Jinhae substations, and the Changwon Rescue Team, successfully rescuing all four crew members.
Neither vessel was at risk of sinking; however, the 2-ton vessel was unable to navigate on its own due to the impact of the collision, so the 4-ton vessel towed it to a shipyard in Tongyeong City.
The Changwon Coast Guard is currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, including questioning the crew members of both vessels.
