Dramatic Discount at Chinese Five-Star Hotel
40-Yuan Buffet Blind Box Goes Viral on Social Media
Available Only for 15 Minutes from 9:15 p.m.
A five-star hotel in China has drawn attention by offering leftover food at a dramatically reduced price.
On November 11, multiple Chinese media outlets, including Dasang News and China.com, reported that the Guoshou Junlan Hotel in Hangzhou, China, recently launched a buffet blind box for 40 yuan (approximately 8,200 won).
This blind box is available only from Wednesday to Sunday, for 15 minutes between 9:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Customers must pack all the food prepared on the buffet table (except for sashimi and seafood) themselves into the blind box (takeout container). For beverages, they can choose from carbonated drinks, coconut juice, or fruit juice.
Recently, a netizen posted a photo of the hotel’s blind box on Xiaohongshu (China’s version of Instagram), making it a trending topic on Chinese social networking services (SNS). The user revealed the food packed into a palm-sized takeout container and commented, “I was in a hurry to pack, so I couldn’t take any photos inside. The food was quite fresh and delicious.”
The user added, “There was a variety of food, including roast duck, braised pork, beef, sausage, and fruit, but the desserts were especially good. The chocolate flavor was rich and the texture was smooth. Next time, I’ll just fill the box with desserts.”
The hotel buffet is priced at 298 yuan per person (about 61,300 won) and offers around 30 different dishes. Hotel manager Wang stated, “Many people don’t visit the hotel buffet often due to time or budget constraints. Through this event, I hope more people can enjoy a five-star hotel experience without pressure.” He especially emphasized, “We use fresh ingredients and strictly adhere to food safety standards and hygiene inspections.”
