"Expanding Online Sales Channels and Increasing Farmers' Income"
Buan County in North Jeolla Province announced that its local food e-commerce business reached a cumulative sales total of 10 billion won as of the end of last month.
According to the county on November 11, this achievement comes approximately five years after the business was first launched at the end of 2021. It is seen as a result of pioneering new distribution channels for local agricultural products amid the rapidly changing online market environment.
In response to the growing trend of online consumption and the increase in non-face-to-face purchases, the county has continued to promote its e-commerce business to help local farmers establish a stable income base. As a result, it has built a distribution system that enables the sale of agricultural products to consumers nationwide through about 10 online sales platforms, including Korea Post Shopping, Coupang, and Naver Smart Store.
In particular, the county secured stable sales channels by establishing a year-round sales system for its renowned reclaimed land rice and grains, and discovered and marketed popular seasonal items such as Dongjin Sumi potatoes, Daebong persimmons, autumn gizzard shad, and blue crabs.
Additionally, by linking with senior employment programs, the county maximized synergy with local job creation initiatives through the sale of onions, sweet potatoes, garlic, and scorched rice. It is also leading the way in increasing local farmers' and fishers' incomes by expanding participation from young and female farmers, such as through the sale of leafy and fruit vegetables by young agricultural producers.
Kim Seonchae, head of the Rural Vitality Division of the county, stated, "We have strengthened a producer-centered distribution structure so that local farmers can sell their products stably through various online channels." He added, "Going forward, we will further raise the nationwide recognition of Buan agricultural products by fostering new items linked to local food direct stores, enhancing the competitiveness of our flagship brands, and expanding e-commerce marketing."
