This event is hosted by the IOC and organized by North Jeolla Province, Jeonju City, and the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee. It is the only Olympic event in Korea officially certified by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In Korea, this event has previously been held only in Seoul, a total of four times. This is the first time it will take place outside the capital region. Holding the Olympic Day Run in Jeonju is intended to raise the city's profile and widely demonstrate its strong commitment to hosting the Olympics.

This race, which features three categories-5 km, 10 km, and half marathon-opened ticket sales on August 19 and accepted the first 6,000 registrants on a first-come, first-served basis, resulting in tickets selling out quickly.

Of the total 6,000 participants, 60.5% are men and 39.5% are women. More than 90% are in their 20s to 40s (43% in their 30s, 30% in their 20s, and 18% in their 40s), reflecting strong enthusiasm from the younger generation.

In addition to the marathon, the "Olympic Day Run 2025 in Jeonju" will feature a variety of side events to add to the autumn atmosphere, including Olympic sport experience programs, a photo zone for finishers, a traditional farmers' music performance (Nongak), and a cheerleading dance event.

On the day of the event, sports stars from various disciplines-including Oh Sanguk (fencing), Lee Donggook (football), Shin Soo-ji (rhythmic gymnastics), Kwak Yoon-gi (short track speed skating), and Kim Yeji (shooting)-will hold fan signing sessions. There will also be an exciting performance by Modern Gugak Project ChaoReum, Jeonju City's honorary ambassador, blending traditional Korean music and contemporary music.

Additionally, Whee In, a singer from Jeonju, will give a congratulatory performance to celebrate the participants' completion of the race and further elevate the event's atmosphere.

Further details about the event can be found on the official website and the official Instagram account.

Kim Yongwoon, Head of the Sports Industry Division at Jeonju City, stated, "Jeonju is a city where culture and sports coexist. I hope this Olympic Day Run becomes a festival where all citizens run together and leads to Jeonju's bid to host the Summer Olympics. We will do our utmost to ensure the event is abundant and safe."
