According to the foundation on November 7, this project was designed to offer a new experience of Hwasun and promote the region’s appeal by connecting people through the special bond of shared names and place names.
This program is a participatory local culture and tourism initiative, inviting people whose names include the names of any of the 13 towns and townships in Hwasun County to enjoy a two-day, one-night trip in Hwasun.
The "I am Hwasun" project, which attracted nationwide attention from the participant recruitment stage, was held in two rounds, with five teams selected for each round.
During the first round, held from October 17 to 18, participants created unforgettable memories by enjoying the autumn scenery of Hwasun through activities such as the Hwasun Dolmen Autumn Flower Festival, the Hwasun Hanium County Residents’ Day event, fireworks and celebratory performances, and a tour of Hwasun Jeokbyeok.
The second round, held from November 1 to 2, offered a journey to fully experience Hwasun’s diverse nature and culture, including the Hwasun Unju Cultural Festival held at the mystical Unju Temple, night views from the Gaemisan Observatory, a musical fountain show at the Flower River Road, and a free travel course at Hwasun Jeokbyeok.
Participants shared, "It was special to travel to Hwasun because of the connection through our names," and added, "Although the time was short, we were deeply touched by the heartfelt hospitality."
Goo Jongcheon, CEO of the Hwasun County Culture and Tourism Foundation, stated, "We prepared this project in the hope that the bonds formed through names would help people remember Hwasun and inspire them to visit again," adding, "We will continue to promote local cultural programs where residents and tourists can come together."
