On November 5, ten students from Group 2-4 of the 1st Security Course at the Korea National Defense University visited Geumsan County to learn about the county’s current affairs and explore its major historical and cultural assets.

This visit was organized through the collaboration of Chungcheongnam-do Province and Geumsan County, aiming to enhance the students’ understanding of the region and foster security awareness.

Notably, the event included participants from various institutions such as the National Intelligence Service, the Army and Navy, Chungcheongnam-do Province, Seoul Metropolitan Government, the National Research Council of Science & Technology, as well as a Pakistani military officer, adding significance to international exchange.

The students listened to a briefing by Heo Changdeok, Deputy Governor of Geumsan County, on the county’s current status and major issues, and shared perspectives on regional policy directions through a Q&A session.

They then visited the Chilbaekui Chong Memorial to reflect on the spirit of national defense and explored the history and culture of Geumsan at the Geumsan History and Culture Museum.

Additionally, at the Geumsan Ginseng and Herbal Medicine Street, they examined the distribution status of Geumsan ginseng, which is registered as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS), and learned about the region’s core industries.

Deputy Governor Heo stated, “It is highly meaningful that key figures in national security have come to experience Geumsan’s national heritage and tourism resources firsthand. We will continue to create opportunities for mutual development through diverse exchanges and cooperation.”

He added, “Building on this visit, we plan to strengthen our cooperative network with national institutions such as the Korea National Defense University and widely promote Geumsan’s historical, cultural, and industrial resources. We are committed to realizing a future for Geumsan where security, culture, and the economy are harmoniously integrated.”
