Yangju City Opens "Yeongok Cafe" as Part of Border Area Vitality Project
Transformation of an Old Warehouse Marks the Start of a Resident-Led Income Model
Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province held an opening ceremony on the 6th, marking the completion of the "Yeongok Cafe" project. The cafe was established as part of the "Border Area Resident Self-Sustaining Vitality (Income) Project," which was selected as a Gyeonggi-do public contest project in 2022.

More than 50 people attended the opening ceremony, including Yangju Mayor Kang Suhyeon, Yangju City Council Chairman Yoon Changcheol, heads of institutions and organizations, and local residents, to celebrate the creation of this new community space.
This project transformed an old warehouse owned by the Yeongok 2-ri village association into a resident-operated cafe. It is especially meaningful as it lays the foundation for resident-led, self-sustaining income generation and the restoration of the village community.
Since being selected for the public contest in 2022, Yangju City has established a village development plan and provided resident capacity-building education over two years. In 2024, the city began full-scale remodeling work, conducted a pilot operation, and officially opened the cafe on this day.
Yangju Mayor Kang Suhyeon stated, "Yeongok Cafe is not just a place for relaxation; it is a meaningful example of residents taking the lead in utilizing local resources and establishing a foundation for self-reliance. Once again, we have confirmed that resident participation and cooperation are the driving forces behind regional development."
Yangju City expects that "Yeongok Cafe," as a sustainable income-generating model where residents develop recipes and manage operations themselves, will revitalize the village community and bring new energy to the local economic cycle.
