Sadang District 12 in Dongjak-gu to Be Redeveloped into 642-Unit Apartment Complex

Expansion of Public Facilities Including Postnatal Care Center

Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Ilha), announced on November 7 that the “Sadang District 12 Housing Redevelopment Project,” which aims to transform the old low-rise residential area in Sadang-dong into a residential complex that balances public interest and business feasibility, has passed the review of the Seoul City Urban Planning Committee’s delegated subcommittee.

As a result of the review held on November 3, the “Sadang District 12 Redevelopment Plan Decision and Redevelopment Area Designation (Draft)” was approved with modifications. The area around 288 Sadang-dong will be upgraded from a Type 1 to a Type 2 General Residential Zone and will be subject to a floor area ratio of 249.95%. Accordingly, a new apartment complex with a total of 642 units, including 115 rental units, is expected to be built.

The district will also improve local transportation conditions alongside the redevelopment project. Two roads, Sadang-ro 14-gil and Sadang-ro 16ma-gil, will be widened, and a new public pedestrian passageway as well as a pedestrian-only road for hikers, connected to Kkachisan Neighborhood Park, will be created. In addition, the complex will include community facilities such as a childcare center, a senior citizens’ center, a small library, and an open community plaza to enhance residents’ convenience and promote community engagement.

In particular, reflecting the results of a survey on local social overhead capital (SOC) needs, the district has decided to introduce a “public support facility (Seoul-type Safe Postnatal Care Center)” instead of the originally planned public parking lot. This aims to improve access to public medical services and create a better environment for childbirth and child-rearing.

Park Ilha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, stated, “We will promptly proceed with follow-up procedures such as the announcement of the redevelopment plan decision, designation of the redevelopment area, and integrated reviews, reflecting the results of this review,” adding, “We will continue to rapidly transform Dongjak’s landscape through systematic development.”
