Through this regular performance, the Iksan City Pungmul Troupe will express its artistic journey to date through music and movement. Artistic Director Kim Ikju is in charge of the overall direction, and the performance will unfold under four themes.
The first theme, 'Reminiscence,' portrays a state where memories are condensed and energy is abundant, representing the moment before embarking on a new journey. It combines the dramatic aspects of traditional Namsadang Nori, solo performances with instruments such as the kkwaenggwari and janggu, and elements like Mun Gut.
The second theme is 'Conclusion.' New beginnings always emerge from endings, and the novelty of life is always intertwined with some aspect of the past.
This segment primarily features janggu performances and samulnori, which are the most frequently played pieces by the Iksan City Pungmul Troupe. In addition, performances by a Korean traditional music band, including 'Sukdaemeori' and folk songs, will offer a familiar yet refreshing emotional experience.
The third theme, 'Connection,' expands the expressive power of traditional performances by blending musical expressions created with both Korean and Western instruments, as well as movements inspired by taekwondo and fan dance to convey both strength and softness.
The final theme, 'Collection,' encapsulates both the subject and the conclusion of the performance. Memories form the foundation of the present and generate newness that leads into the future. Like individuals, groups also possess memories.
This work artistically captures the past, present, and future of the Pungmul Troupe by expressing each carefully selected memory, representing the passage of time experienced by the Iksan City Pungmul Troupe.
Admission to the performance is free for all seats, and up to four tickets per person can be reserved through the Iksan Arts Center website. For more details, please contact the Iksan Arts Center.
An official from the Iksan Arts Center stated, "We have prepared this performance to provide citizens with high-quality cultural and artistic services and to help improve their quality of life," adding, "The performance presented by the Iksan City Pungmul Troupe will be a stage where audiences can experience both artistic inspiration and excitement."
