'Yongin City Point,' a program introduced and operated by Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province, is gaining attention as a virtuous cycle model that links citizen participation in municipal affairs to the revitalization of the local economy.

'Yongin City Point' rewards citizens with points when they participate in municipal affairs, engage in public interest activities, lead healthy lifestyles, or contribute to the local economy. The points awarded can be converted into local currency and used like cash.

Since its launch in April 2023, the service has attracted 39,610 members in just two years and seven months, with the cumulative amount of points accumulated reaching 172 million won, reflecting its popularity.

Looking at the breakdown of point accumulation, in the public points category, 46 million won was awarded for 'Georeoyong' walking points, 2.7 million won for proactive administration points, and 1 million won for participation in citizen satisfaction surveys. In the private points category (such as card points), 122.3 million won was accumulated through various partnerships, including with Woori Card and Nonghyup Card.

In particular, the points accumulated are converted into Yongin local currency, which has had a tangible effect on boosting sales for local small businesses and stimulating consumption. As a result, the program is recognized for establishing a virtuous cycle structure that connects citizen participation in municipal affairs with the revitalization of the local economy.

A city official stated, "Yongin City Point provides citizens with small joys as they participate in municipal affairs in their daily lives and serves as a digital participation platform linked to the local economy," adding, "We will gradually expand the use of private points in cooperation with credit card companies."
