International Electric (CEO Kim Sunho), a transformer manufacturing company, announced on November 6 that it received the “Chungcheongbuk-do Special Award for Outstanding Small and Medium Enterprise” at the 19th Chungcheongbuk-do Entrepreneur’s Day event held in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do.
The “Outstanding Small and Medium Enterprise” award is given to companies that have been operating in Chungcheongbuk-do for more than three years and have demonstrated excellence in management, technology development, and exports through a rigorous review process.
International Electric was recognized for its exclusive technology as the only domestic company specializing in special transformers for railway vehicles, a 274% increase in export volume in 2024 compared to 2023, and obtaining international certification standards, earning high marks in both technology and export categories. In addition, the company was acknowledged for its ongoing community service and contributions to local job creation for both youth and seniors.
Kim Sunho, CEO of International Electric, stated, “This award is the result of our efforts to grow together with the local community and fulfill our responsibilities,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen our technological innovation and quality competitiveness to grow into a globally recognized power company.”
Awarded companies receive a variety of benefits, including preferential support from Chungcheongbuk-do’s SME development fund, priority for participation in overseas market development delegations and exhibitions, and a three-year deferment of local tax audits.
International Electric was established on October 26, 1946, as “International Transformer Manufacturing Plant,” the nation’s first specialized transformer manufacturer. The company has grown by developing its own technology without introducing foreign technology or brands. Currently, it mainly produces distribution transformers, railway transformers, and UPS systems, and its quality is recognized by continuous supply to domestic and international power generation companies and railway corporations, including Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and Korea Electric Power Corporation. In recent years, the company has expanded its exports, especially to the North American market, establishing itself as a global power equipment specialist. Recently, it has further expanded its business scope and scale by supplying to North American power generation companies, AI data centers, and the renewable energy sector.
