Discussing Measures for Peace in Ukraine Together
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi held a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on November 5, according to Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Kyodo News and NHK, this was the first conversation between the two leaders since Prime Minister Takaichi took office on October 21.
Prime Minister Takaichi expressed her respect to President Zelenskyy for leading his country at the risk of his life and assured him that Japan would stand with Ukraine. She further stated that Japan would continue to provide support for Ukraine’s reconstruction and recovery.
Prime Minister Takaichi added that Japan would firmly support Ukraine so that fair and lasting peace can be achieved as soon as possible.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for Prime Minister Takaichi’s willingness to support Ukraine and explained measures aimed at achieving peace in Ukraine.
On the same day, Prime Minister Takaichi also spoke with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The two leaders agreed to strengthen unity and cooperation as members of the Group of Seven (G7), considering the current international situation.
