Gimpo City Accelerates Construction of Youth Training Center in New Town
City Aims to Begin Construction Next Year; Administrative Procedures Underway
Project Foundation Budget Includes 500 Million Won in Special Allocation Tax
Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Byungsoo) is moving forward with the construction of a youth training center in the new town, a multi-purpose facility for young people. The city has completed land acquisition and design services for the youth training center and is currently proceeding with administrative procedures to begin construction.
The city has consistently emphasized the need for a youth training center in the new town, citing the increasing youth population. As securing the project budget is the top priority, the city plans to secure municipal funds, including a special allocation tax of 500 million won, within this year and reflect them as the foundational budget for the project’s commencement. In addition, the city is determined to make every effort to secure further funding for the construction of the youth training center in the new town through applications for national and provincial subsidies and public contest projects.
Mayor Kim Byungsoo has expressed his determination to prioritize the project and to begin construction next year, even if it means issuing municipal bonds, as the center will provide a foundation for young people to nurture their dreams and grow.
The youth training center is a large-scale investment project with a total budget of 74.7 billion won. It will be a multi-purpose youth facility aimed at promoting healthy leisure activities, self-development, and well-being among young people. The center will be built on a site of 14,992.9 square meters, with a total floor area of 9,181.63 square meters, consisting of two buildings with one basement level and four above-ground floors, located at 1888-9, Janggi-dong. The training center building will house a youth-only performance hall, special-purpose classrooms for coding, media, and cooking, and rooms for youth club activities. The gymnasium building will feature a swimming pool and a multi-purpose sports hall.
Kim Byungsoo, Mayor of Gimpo, stated, "Creating a space where young people, the protagonists of our future, can realize their dreams is an essential core public welfare project. We will ensure the establishment of key infrastructure so that children in Gimpo can nurture their dreams and grow up healthy," adding, "We will create a safe and pleasant facility, making it an open space where both youth and citizens can come together."
