Chonnam National University Hospital and Hwasun Branch Receive Grade 1 in Tuberculosis and COPD Adequacy Evaluation

Chonnam National University Hospital and Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital announced on November 5 that they both received the highest grade, Grade 1, in the tuberculosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) adequacy evaluations conducted by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service.

Although the asthma category is not officially included in the scoring system, both hospitals demonstrated performance that far exceeded the Grade 1 standard across all evaluation indicators, confirming their competitiveness throughout the entire process of respiratory disease treatment.

In the "2024 (7th) Tuberculosis Adequacy Evaluation" conducted by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, Chonnam National University Hospital scored 98.8 points and Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital scored 99.2 points, both surpassing the average for their hospital category (97.2 points).

Chonnam National University Hospital significantly exceeded both the national and hospital category averages in most items, including a 100% implementation rate for standard and rapid drug susceptibility tests. Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital achieved a 100% initial examination rate, earning praise for its systematic approach to accurate diagnosis and early treatment intervention.

In the "2024 (10th) Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Adequacy Evaluation" by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, both Chonnam National University Hospital and Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital received Grade 1, with scores of 87.9 and 93.7, respectively.

Chonnam National University Hospital achieved Grade 1 for the tenth consecutive time, earning high marks for the proportion of patients with continuous visits and the proportion of patients prescribed inhaled bronchodilators. Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital also earned high scores across all areas of disease management, including examinations, continuous visit management, and medication prescriptions, confirming the systematic and continuous management capabilities of both the main and branch hospitals for chronic respiratory diseases.

Although the asthma category is mainly graded at the clinic level and official hospital-level grades are not announced, both Chonnam National University Hospital and Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital achieved results that far exceeded both the category and overall averages in key indicators such as examinations, visits, and medication prescriptions. In particular, the prescription rate of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) was significantly higher than the overall average, indicating that appropriate treatment based on clinical guidelines is being thoroughly implemented.

Min Jeongjun, Director of Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, stated, "Achieving top national results in adequacy evaluations for tuberculosis, COPD, and asthma means that precise testing, active treatment, and systematic follow-up management have been organically integrated. We will continue to strengthen our specialized medical capabilities to improve the health of local residents."

Jung Shin, Director of Chonnam National University Hospital, said, "Chonnam National University Hospital and Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital are enhancing early diagnosis and treatment outcomes for major respiratory diseases through a close cooperation system. Both hospitals are also faithfully fulfilling their roles as public medical institutions in the prevention of community infectious diseases and the management of chronic diseases. Moving forward, the two hospitals plan to improve the health of local residents through the integration of medical care, research, and public healthcare, and to set an exemplary case in public healthcare by actively participating in national tuberculosis and chronic lung disease management programs."
