Guri City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyunghyun) announced on November 5 that the "20th Guri Traditional Market Street Festival" and the "Donggu-Waguri Night Market," held for three days from October 30 to November 1 around Guri Traditional Market and Guri Station, concluded successfully with enthusiastic participation from citizens and merchants.

This event was organized with the aim of revitalizing the local economy by strengthening the connection between traditional markets and neighborhood commercial districts and promoting local consumption. The event was hosted by the Guri Commercial District Revitalization Foundation and jointly organized by the Guri Traditional Market Merchants’ Association and the Guri Station Alley Merchants’ Association.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the Traditional Market Street Festival was held under the theme "Creating Together, a Happy Guri Traditional Market," and featured a variety of programs such as pungmulpae (traditional Korean percussion) performances, a multicultural food festival, citizen-participation karaoke, and local art performances.

In particular, the multicultural food festival, which saw participation from multicultural families, received a great response from citizens as they could experience and purchase traditional foods from various countries. The festival also offered experience-based content for families, such as balloon art and busking performances.

Additionally, the "Donggu-Waguri Night Market," operated in the Guri Traditional Market food stall street and the alley-type shopping district near Guri Station, contributed to the revitalization of the nighttime economy by featuring mini games, cultural performances, and an Onnuri gift certificate refund event.

Baek Kyunghyun, Mayor of Guri City, stated, "This festival has created a venue for mutual growth between traditional markets and neighborhood commercial districts," and added, "We will continue to promote various support measures to vitalize the local commercial sector and build a citizen-centered economic ecosystem."

Meanwhile, Guri City has been working on improving the infrastructure of traditional markets, strengthening merchant capabilities, issuing local currency, and providing special guarantee support. Starting next year, the city plans to gradually implement a youth entrepreneurship support program utilizing vacant stores within the traditional market.
