Naver is set to increase its investment in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure to over 1 trillion won in the future. The company aims to strengthen its overall AI services, including physical AI and on-service AI, by securing a sufficient supply of graphics processing units (GPUs), which are essential to AI infrastructure.
On the morning of November 5, during the 2025 third quarter earnings conference call held online, Naver Chief Financial Officer Kim Heecheol stated, "We currently expect facility investments, including GPUs, to be on the scale of 1 trillion won," adding, "If we expand into new businesses such as physical AI after next year, we will need to invest 1 trillion won solely in GPUs."
Kim continued, "There will also be a significant portion of investments directly linked to revenue, such as GPU as a Service (GPUaaS) for public institutions and private companies. As long as our financial capacity allows, we plan to maintain an aggressive investment stance," he said. "We will also consider the utilization of the 60,000 GPUs we are receiving from Nvidia within this framework."
Previously, on October 31, Nvidia announced that it would supply more than 260,000 Blackwell GPUs to domestic companies and institutions, including Naver Cloud. Of these, over 60,000 Blackwell GPUs are scheduled to be delivered to Naver Cloud.
Naver Cloud has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Nvidia to jointly develop a next-generation physical AI platform that connects the physical and digital worlds. Through this partnership, Naver Cloud plans to build AI infrastructure focused on key industries such as semiconductors, shipbuilding, and energy, supporting the adoption of AI in industrial settings.
Investments are also being made in AI technologies such as physical AI. Naver CEO Choi Sooyeon explained the status of physical AI research and development, stating, "We have been focusing on developing software, which is a core competency in physical AI," and added, "We expect to capture more than 30% of the global robotics market."
The application of AI across Naver's services, referred to as 'on-service AI,' is also gradually expanding. CEO Choi said, "The AI Briefing, which was launched last March, has expanded its coverage to 15% of integrated search queries as of the end of September," and added, "AI Briefing is now being used by over 30 million users."
Choi continued, "The number of clicks on related questions has increased more than fivefold compared to April, when AI Briefing was first introduced," and explained, "Starting this month, we will gradually test personalization of the question section related to the answer content."
Since the end of last March, Naver has launched the 'AI Briefing' service, which provides AI-based summary results in integrated search and Naver Plus Store. Depending on the search keyword, AI automatically summarizes and presents the search results.
Naver plans to introduce an 'AI Tab' next year, which will be separated as a dedicated tab in integrated search and provide conversation-based search results. The company also plans to launch an integrated AI agent that connects with external services and a shopping AI agent. CEO Choi said, "We have established an environment where AI agents can be organically applied," and added, "Starting with the launch of the shopping AI agent next spring, we will sequentially introduce the AI Tab, which offers a fully generative search experience, and the integrated AI agent."
Commerce services such as Naver Plus Store and Smart Store are also continuing to grow. CEO Choi stated, "The Naver Plus Store app has surpassed 10 million downloads," and added, "We plan to expand AI personalization from 31% to 80%."
On this day, Naver announced that its consolidated sales for the third quarter of this year reached 3.1381 trillion won, up 15.6% from the same period last year. Operating profit during the same period was 570.6 billion won, an 8.6% increase year-on-year. Compared to the previous quarter, sales rose by 7.6% and operating profit by 9.4%.
This is the first time that Naver's quarterly sales have exceeded 3 trillion won. Operating profit also marked an all-time high on a quarterly basis.
