Jinju City and Sancheong County Conduct Joint Environmental Cleanup of Jinyang Lake and Upstream Areas

Responding to the Climate Crisis through Mutual Cooperation
Taking Action for Carbon Neutrality

On November 4, Sancheong County and Jinju City held a joint environmental cleanup activity for Jinyang Lake and its upstream area in the vicinity of the Bronze Age Culture Museum in Daepyeong-myeon, Jinju City, setting an example of mutual cooperation between local governments.

This event was organized so that the two neighboring regions could join forces to create a cleaner local environment and put the values of coexistence and collaboration into practice.

Approximately 300 participants, including public officials from Sancheong County and Jinju City, members of environmental organizations, and local residents, took part in the cleanup activities, collecting trash and removing invasive plant species around the Bronze Age Culture Museum.

Taking this activity as an opportunity, Sancheong County and Jinju City agreed to work together to protect the environment and achieve carbon neutrality in the Jinyang Lake and upstream areas.

Prior to the cleanup, a commemorative ceremony was held under the slogans "Opening the Future Together through Coexistence and Solidarity!" and "Responding to the Climate Crisis with the Power of Cooperation!" The event featured a performance reaffirming the two local governments' commitment to mutual development, drawing attention from participants.

This joint environmental cleanup is part of a mutual development agreement signed in 2018. The two regions began joint cleanup activities in 2019, and after conducting activities in Jinju in May 2023 and in Wonji riverside in Sancheong in July 2023, this year marks the resumption of the initiative after a two-year hiatus.

Lee Seunghwa, County Governor of Sancheong, stated in his greeting, "Today is a meaningful occasion where Sancheong and Jinju are opening the path to coexistence and moving toward a greater future. We will institutionalize regular environmental cleanup activities for sustainable regional development and do our best to create a clean environment that residents can truly experience."

Joo Kyuil, Mayor of Jinju City, said, "Creating a clean environment through cooperation that transcends administrative boundaries is the way to improve the quality of life for our citizens. We will continue to expand joint activities with Sancheong County, such as practicing carbon neutrality and responding together to the climate crisis, to further strengthen coexistence and collaboration."
