Establishing Itself as a Leading Municipality for Digital-Based Tourism Promotion
The number of recipients of the 'Digital Tourism Resident ID' promoted by Geochang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization has surpassed 200,000, making it the top municipality in Gyeongsangnam-do in terms of users and establishing itself as a leading local government in promoting tourism based on digital infrastructure.
As of October 2025, the cumulative number of Digital Tourism Resident IDs issued stands at 204,610, an 85% increase compared to 110,582 in the previous year.
Geochang-gun has participated in this project since May 2023. Currently, a total of 26 businesses are involved, including 9 accommodations, 10 experience programs, 3 food and beverage establishments, 3 attractions, and 1 shopping venue, providing tailored benefits to tourists by region.
The Digital Tourism Resident ID is a 'digital honorary resident card' concept that offers tourists discounts to revitalize tourism in areas with declining populations, thereby contributing to the inflow of living populations into local communities.
This achievement is attributed to the completion of a tourism belt spanning east, west, south, and north, which has transformed Geochang's natural landscapes into excellent tourism resources. Major attractions such as Changpowon, Gamaksan Star Wind Hill, and the Forest Leisure Sports Park have gained significant popularity, with more than 1.3 million tourists visiting the region this year, reflecting strong growth in local tourism.
It is analyzed that the strengthening of Geochang-gun's tourism competitiveness and the recovery of local tourism have contributed to the widespread issuance of the 'Digital Honorary Resident Card.'
With the milestone of surpassing 200,000 recipients, Geochang-gun plans to further strengthen promotion of the Digital Tourism Resident ID, discover additional participating businesses, and expand visitor engagement through collaborative events with the Korea Tourism Organization.
County Governor Koo Inmo stated, "I would like to thank the 200,000 honorary residents who have visited Geochang through the Digital Tourism Resident ID," adding, "We will continue to develop a variety of tourism content and expand stay-type tourism infrastructure to ensure that visitors can experience the charms of Geochang more easily and enjoyably."
