The Gimpo City-Yonsei University Career and Academic Mentoring program was launched after the city was designated as a Special Education Development Zone. It is a collaborative initiative between Gimpo City and Yonsei University to help high school students in Gimpo clearly establish their career and academic goals. Designed as an eight-week, one-on-one consulting program, Yonsei University mentors provide career and academic counseling to Gimpo City high school students.
The program began with 50 Yonsei University mentors and 94 Gimpo City high school mentees. From the first session on September 21 to the present, the course attendance rate has remained at 100%. After each session of the non-face-to-face mentoring, individual interim satisfaction surveys were conducted among the mentees, resulting in a score of 98 points (4.9 out of 5). This high score reflects Gimpo City's efforts to provide students with effective educational programs.
From the mentor and mentee selection stage, the city has made efforts to ensure students receive practical academic support by matching participants based on the principle of same-gender pairings to facilitate quick rapport, and by surveying desired academic tracks (liberal arts or sciences) in advance to enable customized matching.
A Gimpo City official stated, "Since the designation as a Special Education Development Zone, students have shown great enthusiasm for the educational programs jointly promoted with Yonsei University," adding, "We hope that the career and academic mentoring program will serve as a foundation for meaningful growth among Gimpo City students."
Meanwhile, since Gimpo City was designated as a "Leading Region for the Special Education Development Zone" last year and signed an agreement for educational cooperation with Yonsei University, the city has been jointly promoting a variety of initiatives with Yonsei University, including the "Special Education Development Zone AI·SW Competition," "Yonsei University Campus Visit AI·SW Education," and the "Special Education Development Zone AI·SW Club Mentoring" program.
