Rising Demand for Travel to Small Cities in Japan
Three Weekly Flights Through March Next Year
Air Busan (CEO Jung Byungsub) is reopening the Busan-Nagasaki route in response to growing demand for travel to small cities in Japan.
On November 5, Air Busan announced, "From January 4 to March 27 next year, we will operate charter flights on the Busan-Nagasaki route three times a week (Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays)." This marks the second round of charter flights following the previous operation in October.
According to the Tuesday schedule, flights will depart from Gimhae International Airport at 3:55 p.m. and arrive at Nagasaki Airport at 5:10 p.m. The return flight will depart at 6:10 p.m. and arrive at Gimhae Airport at 7:15 p.m.
Air Busan is also offering a variety of partnership benefits to passengers, such as discounts on local airport buses, rental cars, and admission to major tourist attractions. Passengers can access these benefits by presenting their Busan-Nagasaki boarding pass when using partner services.
Air Busan has steadily expanded its network of routes to small Japanese cities centered on Gimhae International Airport. Starting with Oita in 2017, the airline has operated charter flights to destinations such as Kumamoto, Shizuoka, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima, and launched a new regular route to Matsuyama in 2023.
The Nagasaki and Toyama charter flights operated in October this year recorded a high average load factor in the upper 90% range, demonstrating strong demand for travel to small cities in Japan.
An Air Busan representative stated, "Small cities in Japan are gaining attention as unique travel destinations where visitors can experience distinctive local culture and atmosphere. Through a diverse range of routes, we aim to contribute to increased regional exchange and the revitalization of tourism."
