At the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel on November 5
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that, together with the Korea Copyright Commission and the Korea Copyright Protection Agency, it will hold the "2025 International Copyright Technology Conference (ICOTEC)" on November 5, 2025, at the Grand Ballroom of the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel. The event will be broadcast live online via YouTube, with English interpretation provided.
The International Copyright Technology Conference, which began in 2011, marks its 15th edition this year. The conference introduces the latest domestic and international copyright technologies and provides a forum for experts from around the world to share and discuss key technological issues in the copyright sector.
Professor Lee Kyungjun of Kyung Hee University will deliver the keynote speech on the topic "AI Rules: Copyright Systems and Business Models as Competitive Advantages." Following this, Antoine Aubert, Digital Expert in Intellectual Property at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), will present on "The Evolution of Generative AI from the Perspective of EU Copyright."
The first session, "Transparent AI Ecosystem," will feature presentations by Professor Kim Cheolyeon of Sookmyung Women's University on "AI Forgetting Technology for the Right to Be Forgotten," Professor Ben Zhao of the University of Chicago on "Mitigating Negative Impacts of Generative AI Using Adversarial Tools," SelectStar CEO Kim Seyeop on "AI Data: New Opportunities in the Copyright Market," and Professor John Collomosse of the University of Surrey on "Media Provenance Authentication for Creative Copyright Exchange and Authenticity Assurance."
The second session, "Fair Copyright Ecosystem," will include presentations by Lycium CEO Sebastian Post on "Fair and Verifiable AI Preference Systems," SBS Research Director Park Jaehyun on "AI Transformation and Rights Management Technology in Broadcasting Production," Laurent Le Meur, Chief Technology Officer of European Digital Reading Lab, on "Technologies for Expressing Machine-Readable Text and Data Mining (TDM) Rights Information in Works," and Studio MetaK Vice President Jung Jiweon on "AI Content Creation and Copyright."
There will also be an awards ceremony to recognize individuals who have contributed to copyright protection and technological advancement. Professor Kim Cheolyeon of Sookmyung Women's University, who developed technology to protect software copyrights and contributed to the advancement of copyright technology, will receive the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award. Kim Hyunsik, Center Director at the Korea Electronics Technology Institute, who researched AI-generated content similarity comparison and digital watermarking technology, will receive the National Intellectual Property Committee Chairperson's Award. Kim Youngmo, Director of the Korea Software Appraisal Society, who has been active in copyright technology R&D and policy research, will receive the World Intellectual Property Organization Award. In addition, Professor Lee Deokgi of Yeonam College of Technology, who contributed to practical talent development through copyright education, and Professor Hong Jiman of Soongsil University, who worked on technology development for protecting K-content copyrights, will receive the Committee Chairperson's Award.

Jung Hyangmi, Director of the Copyright Bureau at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "At this academic conference, we will discuss new copyright technologies to create a fair and transparent copyright environment appropriate for the AI era," adding, "We plan to collect diverse opinions on the latest domestic and international copyright technology trends and issues and reflect them in policies to build a healthy copyright ecosystem where creators and users can grow together."
