Refusal to Comply with Final Demolition Order
Decision Made to Protect the Public Interest
The municipal administration has ultimately filed a police complaint against an environmental group that has been illegally occupying a river near Sejongbo and staging a sit-in protest.
According to the Environmental and Greenery Bureau, the responsible department, a complaint was filed with the Sejong Southern Police Station on November 4, 2025. This action was taken because an environmental group has been occupying a national river without permission and holding a sit-in to demand the demolition of Sejongbo.
Previously, the city had issued three notifications to the environmental group since September: a preliminary notice to restore the site to its original condition, an opportunity to submit opinions, and a final demolition order. Relevant public officials have repeatedly visited the protest site to urge the group to voluntarily remove their encampment, but the group refused to comply, which ultimately led to the filing of the police complaint.
A city official stated, "This measure aims to maintain social order and eliminate factors that undermine the public interest through legal sanctions against the illegal occupation of the river," adding, "It is a decision made in accordance with proper procedures to protect river facilities and prevent safety accidents."
