"Hamyang's athletes showcased
outstanding skills, elevating the county's prestige"
Hamyang County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on November 4 that its delegation of 565 athletes participated in 18 sports at the 36th Gyeongsangnam-do Sports Festival for All, held in Miryang, and achieved unprecedentedly outstanding results.
The Hamyang County team achieved overall championships in six events: gateball (senior division), gymnastics (senior division), soft tennis, park golf, baduk (demonstration event), and bowling. They also secured second place in two events: tennis (senior division) and basketball, and third place in four events: jokgu (senior division), soccer (senior division), ssireum, and bodybuilding, marking a remarkable performance.
At the opening ceremony held at Miryang Sports Complex on October 31, a parade of delegations from each city and county took place. Hamyang County entered fourth and promoted its representative tourist attractions, including "Go Up Hamyang," Sangnim Park, and Namgye Seowon. At the awards ceremony during the closing event on November 2, Hamyang County received the Encouragement Award.
County Governor Jin Byungyeong stated, "The athletes of Hamyang have demonstrated outstanding skills, greatly enhancing the prestige of our county. We will do our utmost to complete the construction of multi-purpose gymnasiums and park golf courses as soon as possible so that more residents can participate in sports for all."
An Byeongmyeong, President of the Hamyang County Sports Council, expressed his gratitude, saying, "I thank Hamyang County for its full support, and the athletes and officials who achieved the best results despite challenging circumstances, making this festival a moment of greater unity for our residents. We will continue to promote the growth and development of Hamyang's sports for all."
Meanwhile, under the theme "Sports for All, One Gyeongnam," the delegations from 18 cities and counties, who shared both competition and friendship over three days, pledged to meet again in 2026 in Jinju, the next host city, during the closing ceremony held at Miryang Culture and Sports Center at 3 p.m. on November 2.
