Statement in Police Report: "We Did It for Views"
Bucheon Launches Citizens' Committee to Eradicate Rogue YouTubers
Two YouTubers who performed actions reminiscent of sexual acts while broadcasting on the street near Bucheon Station have been referred to the prosecution.
On November 3, the Bucheon Wonmi Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that a man and a woman in their 30s, identified as A and B, have been referred to the prosecution without detention on charges of public indecency. A and B are accused of committing obscene acts during a YouTube broadcast at Pinocchio Square near Bucheon Station on June 19.
During police questioning, the two reportedly stated, "We did it to increase YouTube views."
Recently, Bucheon City has taken a firm stance against so-called "rogue YouTubers." On October 17, the city held an inaugural ceremony and street campaign for the "Bucheon Station Rogue YouTuber Eradication Citizens' Committee" at Pinocchio Square and Maru Square near Bucheon Station.
The Bucheon Station Rogue YouTuber Eradication Citizens' Committee was formed through the voluntary participation of 17 national, civic, and social organizations in the area. It was established to reduce inconvenience for citizens and restore Bucheon City's damaged image.
On the same day, Bucheon Mayor Cho Yongik signed a petition urging legislation to regulate rogue YouTubers and BJs, stating, "Voluntary action by citizens is the greatest force in maintaining urban order," expressing his support for the initiative.
