Sinan County in South Jeolla Province has joined forces with the Next Generation Green Union to establish a collaborative system for responding to the climate crisis and achieving carbon neutrality.

The county announced that on November 1, an agreement titled "Sinan Carbon Neutrality Cooperation" was signed at the county office’s video conference room, with Kim Daein, Acting Governor of Sinan County, and Jung Ingi, Representative of the Next Generation Green Union, in attendance.

About 40 participants, including officials and members from both organizations, attended the signing ceremony to discuss concrete cooperation measures for responding to climate change and reducing carbon emissions.

Sinan County, designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, boasts pristine natural environments and is currently implementing carbon absorption and reduction projects utilizing blue carbon resources such as tidal flats and halophytes. The county is also developing practical carbon credit models through various initiatives, including expanding the adoption of renewable energy, forest greening, and recycling of discarded solar panels.

Through this agreement, the two organizations have agreed to closely cooperate in four areas: jointly promoting climate change response projects; supporting research, policy development, and commercialization related to carbon neutrality; hosting academic research and seminars on environmental conservation; and exchanging information and collaborating on carbon policy.

Kim Daein, Acting Governor of Sinan County, stated, "This agreement will serve as an opportunity to establish a carbon neutrality implementation model by combining Sinan’s ecological value with the expertise of the Next Generation Green Union," adding, "We will create a sustainable green island by promoting climate response policies with the participation of all residents."

Going forward, Sinan County and the Next Generation Green Union plan to carry out joint projects such as developing carbon credit models, promoting blue carbon conservation initiatives, and operating environmental education programs, aiming to become a leading example of carbon neutrality among local governments nationwide.
