Drunk Driver Rams Japanese Tourist Mother and Daughter at Crosswalk, Leaving One Dead

A drunk driving incident resulted in a car ramming into a Japanese tourist mother and daughter, leaving one dead.

The Hyehwa Police Station in Seoul announced on November 3 that they have booked a man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, on charges of drunk driving and causing death or injury by dangerous driving under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.

Mr. A is accused of drunk driving at around 10:00 p.m. the previous day at Dongdaemun Station intersection in Jongno-gu, Seoul, when he veered onto the sidewalk and struck a Japanese mother and daughter who were attempting to cross the crosswalk. At the time, Mr. A's blood alcohol concentration was found to be at a level warranting license revocation.

The mother, in her 50s, who was hit by Mr. A's car, was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest and later died, while her daughter, in her 30s, sustained minor injuries.

Police, responding to the report, arrested Mr. A at the scene. Authorities are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
