President Lee made this assessment of the Korea-China summit in a Facebook post titled "Korea and China: Moving Together Beyond History Toward the Future" on the same day.
On the previous day, President Lee held his first summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Gyeongju, marking President Xi's first state visit to Korea in 11 years, on the occasion of the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.
Recalling President Xi's remarks during the summit that the two countries are "important and close neighbors who cannot move away from each other, and inseparable cooperative partners," President Lee emphasized, "As President Xi said, our two countries have built trust over a long period of exchange, overcoming differences in social systems and ideologies."
He continued, "Although we have faced both major and minor challenges, I am confident that the deep friendship and history that our two countries have built together have remained steadfast and strong."
President Lee mentioned that during the summit, the two countries agreed to institutionalize high-level communication channels and expand people-to-people and regional exchanges, stating, "We have decided to further deepen our friendly relations." He added, "Most importantly, based on the shared understanding that 'the livelihood of the people is paramount,' we will develop concrete cooperation plans across various fields to achieve tangible outcomes that the people of both countries can truly feel."
He went on to say, "Through the 70 trillion won currency swap agreement between the two countries, we plan to enhance the stability of financial markets and trade, and by accelerating negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) regarding services and investment, we will solidify the institutional foundation for economic cooperation."
In conclusion, President Lee said, "As President Xi has expressed his intention to invite me, I look forward to visiting China in the near future and further developing our two countries into even closer neighbors."
He added, "I would like to express my deep gratitude to President Xi for visiting Korea as a state guest for the first time in 11 years."
