Kim Won-i, a member of the National Assembly, has been elected as the new chairman of the Democratic Party Jeonnam Provincial Committee.
The Democratic Party Jeonnam Provincial Committee announced on November 2 that it held its 2nd Extraordinary Party Members’ Convention at the multipurpose gymnasium of Naju Sports Park, where Assemblyman Kim Won-i (Mokpo City, Jeonnam) was elected as the new chairman of the Jeonnam Provincial Committee.
More than 1,000 people attended the convention, including Party Leader Jung Cheongrae, National Assembly members from the Jeonnam region, delegates, and Democratic Party members.
Assemblyman Kim, who ran unopposed for the provincial chairman position on October 27, was elected as the new chairman after receiving 86.44% of the votes in the final tally, which included votes from rights-holding party members of the Jeonnam Provincial Committee from October 31 to November 1, as well as an online approval vote by national delegates held on the day of the convention.
In his acceptance speech, Chairman Kim expressed his gratitude, saying, "I bow my head in thanks to all the party members who have entrusted me with the important responsibility of leading the Jeonnam Provincial Committee, which has realized the values of democracy and people-centered politics." He also pledged, "I will lead the party to a sweeping victory in the local elections for the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration."
He further emphasized, "Together with the Lee Jaemyung administration, we will prepare for and implement new transformations to overcome the crisis in Jeollanam-do, including attracting the RE100 National Industrial Complex, establishing a national medical school in Jeonnam, creating specialized clusters for secondary batteries and materials, parts, and equipment, and restructuring industries around advanced materials and aerospace."
Meanwhile, Chairman Kim is a two-term member of the National Assembly (21st and 22nd terms, Mokpo City), previously served as the Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs of Seoul Metropolitan Government, and is currently serving as the secretary of the National Assembly’s Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs and Startups Committee for the 22nd National Assembly.
