Nonsan Gangyeong Enters City Gas Era... Annual Heating Costs Expected to Drop by 30% Kim Taeheum, Governor of Chungnam Province

The Gangyeong area in Nonsan, Chungnam Province, will have access to city gas starting this winter.

The completion of the city gas supply network, promoted as the first project of the 8th popularly elected Chungnam provincial government’s special energy welfare support initiative, will allow 3,500 households in Gangyeong to benefit from heating costs that are about 30% lower than those of kerosene or LPG.

On October 31, the province held a ceremony to mark the opening of the city gas special support project at Gangyeong Neighborhood Park in Nonsan. The event was attended by Kim Taeheum, Governor of Chungnam Province, Baek Seonghyeon, Mayor of Nonsan, Kim Youngseok, CEO of JB Corporation, and around 700 others. The ceremony included a project progress report and a commemorative event.

This project was launched after Chungnam Province, Nonsan City, and JB Corporation signed an agreement in August 2023. Over two years, a total of 25 billion won was invested to build a 40-kilometer pipeline network from the Nonsan Industrial Complex to Gangyeong-eup.

Gangyeong is the area with the largest number of beneficiary households among the eight special support target areas in the province, with a total of 3,500 households set to benefit.

Governor Kim Taeheum stated, "City gas is a basic right for a safe and convenient life," adding, "Gangyeong marks the starting point of our commitment to realizing energy welfare without blind spots."

He went on to announce, "By 2028, we will invest 120 billion won in expanding energy infrastructure and 50 billion won in welfare support to ensure that every resident of the province can use affordable energy."

Starting with Gangyeong, the province plans to expand city gas supply to other areas such as Unsan and Buseok in Seosan, and Ungcheon in Boryeong, aiming to complete the special support project by 2028. Currently, the city gas supply rate in Chungnam stands at 76.7%, and the province intends to continue increasing this rate.
