A Variety of Attractions Including Photo Zones and Face Painting
Sunchang County in North Jeolla Province will host the '2025 Sunchang Korea Tteokbokki Festa' on November 15 and 16 at the Sunchang Fermentation Theme Park.
According to the county on October 31, this large-scale food culture festival is organized by the Sunchang Fermentation Tourism Foundation and sponsored by Sunchang County. The event aims to promote the region’s sauce culture and culinary resources nationwide by showcasing a wide variety of tteokbokki content made with Sunchang’s signature specialty, gochujang (Korean red chili paste).
In particular, at the inaugural '2024 Sunchang Tteokbokki Festa' held last year, tteokbokki booths featuring 18 teams attracted a constant stream of visitors. The event presented a diverse menu incorporating local agricultural specialties, such as Sunchang traditional gochujang tteokbokki, royal tteokbokki made with Sunchang Korean beef, and unique tteokbokki dishes with Sunchang-grown pumpkin and chestnut. These offerings received high praise for highlighting Sunchang’s distinctive tteokbokki culture.
This year, building on last year’s success, the festival will be significantly expanded to feature 28 detailed programs across five main categories. Tteokbokki-themed experiences, performances, cooking competitions, and markets will introduce a wide array of tteokbokki brands and creative recipes from across the country.
Key programs include the mission run event “Run Tteokbokking” for high school students and older, the “Tteokbokki Grand Battle” where general participants compete in creativity, a tteokbokki and snack sales zone, and tteokbokki sales booths run by residents from Sunchang’s 11 towns and villages.
Additionally, a fine dining program called “I’m Fine Tteokbokki,” a cooking class led by celebrity chef Raymond Kim, and the “Tteokbokki Lab” featuring chef Ahn Yoosung are also scheduled, drawing high expectations from visitors.
There will also be a rich lineup of hands-on content for children and families, including tteokbokki making experiences, DIY meal kit creation, AI-based personalized character making, nostalgic photo zones and face painting, and a tteokbokki train experience. These diverse programs will be available throughout the festival for everyone to enjoy.
The performance stage will feature a Nanta show using tteokbokki cooking utensils, bubble and magic shows, and flash mob performances, providing a variety of stage entertainment.
County Governor Choi Youngil stated, “With Sunchang being the home of gochujang, this will be a truly local festival where tteokbokki from all over the country gathers and the local community comes together. We hope for the enthusiastic interest and attendance of tteokbokki lovers and family tourists from across the nation.”
