Abandoning Disposables, Embracing Reusables!
Leading the Way as an Eco-Friendly City through Reusable Practices
Yangsan City, South Gyeongsang Province, is encouraging the use of reusable cups instead of disposable cups in various meetings and daily activities within public offices in order to promote environmental protection and resource circulation.
To this end, the city has installed tumbler washing machines not only in government buildings but also in local cultural and sports centers and universities, creating an environment where citizens and students can easily use reusable cups.
In particular, Yangsan City is working to expand these daily practices to festivals and various events by introducing reusable cups, striving to increase the use of reusable items and reduce disposable products at festival sites. The aim is to create pleasant event environments and contribute to reducing carbon emissions.
For example, at the "2025 Woongsang Hoeya Festival," held from June 7 to June 8, a total of 3,500 reusable containers were used, marking the beginning of a full-fledged eco-friendly festival operation.
At the "2025 Yangsan Sapryang Culture Festival" held from September 26 to September 28, 30,000 reusable containers were used, and at the concurrently held "2025 Yangsan Food Festival," 8,600 reusable containers and cups were used, creating an eco-friendly festival in which both visitors and participating vendors took part.
Furthermore, at the "2025 Yangsan Dongheon Big Show," scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 1, the city plans to use 2,000 reusable containers and cups. Through continuous monitoring, the city intends to further expand the use of reusable containers at each festival.
By actively introducing reusable containers at festival sites, Yangsan City has succeeded in reducing the use of tens of thousands of disposable products during event periods. This not only helps create a cleaner festival environment but also fosters a culture of citizen participation in resource circulation.
An official from Yangsan City stated, "Expanding a culture of using reusable containers with citizen participation is the most practical way to reduce disposable products. In particular, the smooth circulation of reusable containers requires citizens to voluntarily return them after use, so it is important for everyone to participate together. Going forward, we aim to operate eco-friendly events without disposable products and will gradually expand the use of reusable containers not only at local festivals but also at public institution events and campaigns. Through systematic management to minimize loss and waste, we will realize Yangsan as a resource-circulating city."
