On October 31, Gyeongnam Nonghyup, together with the National Movement Headquarters for Urban-Rural Coexistence, the Gimhae City branch of Nonghyup, and around 60 students from Inje University, visited Hagae Village in Jinyeong-eup, Gimhae City to participate in volunteer work assisting local farmers during the peak farming season.
Gyeongnam Nonghyup, National Movement Headquarters for Urban-Rural Coexistence, Gimhae City Nonghyup, and Inje University Gimhae Assist Farmers During Persimmon Harvest Season.
This volunteer activity was organized as part of Nonghyup's "Nongsim Cheonsim" campaign. Participants helped with the harvesting and sorting of persimmons, providing much-needed support to farms struggling with a labor shortage.
In particular, students from Inje University had a meaningful experience as they participated in persimmon harvesting activities, allowing them to appreciate the public value of agriculture and the significance of urban-rural coexistence, and to reflect on the importance of agriculture and rural communities.
Lee Kanghee, head of the Gimhae City branch of Nonghyup, stated, "The labor shortage in rural areas is a challenge that all members of the local community must address together. I hope that by experiencing agriculture firsthand, the younger generation will come to appreciate the value of life."
An Inje University student who participated in the volunteer work shared, "Working at the harvest site made me realize once again that agriculture is fundamental to our lives. I want to continue participating in such activities to share in the challenges faced by rural communities."
Meanwhile, since 2022, Gyeongnam Nonghyup has been promoting the "University Student Rural Workforce Support Project" as a collaborative initiative with Gyeongnam Province, signing agreements with local universities. This project provides university students with opportunities to earn academic credit through rural experiences and volunteer work, while also supplying stable agricultural labor to farmers.
