Connecting QR Payments and Cardless Withdrawals
Building an Integrated Infrastructure for Overseas Payments and Withdrawals
Woori Card announced on the 31st that it became the first domestic card company to demonstrate an overseas QR payment service in Jakarta, Indonesia, and signed a business agreement to establish a "cardless ATM" service that enables withdrawals using only a QR code.
On the 30th (local time) in Jakarta, Indonesia, Woori Card signed a business agreement to establish a multi-party cardless ATM service, becoming the first domestic card company to do so. The demonstration event was held the previous day at the "2025 Indonesia Digital Finance Festival," hosted by Bank Indonesia.
The service was demonstrated in the presence of the Governor of Bank Indonesia and officials from financial authorities. Without partnering with external payment companies, Woori Card showcased payments by scanning local merchant QR codes through its own mobile application.
The service will be opened to customers within this year after obtaining approval from Indonesian financial authorities. Woori Card plans to expand the service across Asia, including Vietnam, in the future.
On the same day, Woori Card also became the first domestic card company to sign a multi-party business agreement for the establishment of a cardless ATM service with Korea Financial Telecommunications & Clearings Institute, Indonesian payment operator Artajasa, Woori Saudara Bank, and BRI Bank.
The cardless ATM service allows users to withdraw local currency from overseas ATMs using a QR code instead of a card. Along with cross-border QR payment services, this is a key project for the hub system that Korea Financial Telecommunications & Clearings Institute is developing to link international small-value payment services.
Woori Card plans to launch a dedicated product that customers can register for and use through its mobile app. As early as next year, customers will be able to make payments at Indonesian merchants and withdraw local currency from ATMs without a physical card.
Park Jongseok, President of Korea Financial Telecommunications & Clearings Institute, stated, "Starting with Indonesia, we plan to sequentially expand the network of connected countries in cooperation with member countries of the Asia Payment Network (APN)."
Jin Sungwon, CEO of Woori Card, said, "We are proud to be the first card company to participate in the overseas QR payment market in partnership with Korea Financial Telecommunications & Clearings Institute," adding, "We plan to take a leading role in expanding QR payment services across Asia, starting with Indonesia."
A Woori Card official commented, "This agreement and demonstration mark an important milestone in expanding the global digital payment network," and added, "We will continue to create an environment where customers can make payments easily and safely even overseas."
