Recognized for Advancing Resident-Centered Policies
Seungil Jeon, Chairman of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council, announced on the 31st that he had been selected as a recipient of the "2025 Local Autonomy Legislative Award" by the Korea Central Voters Association on the 28th.
The "Local Autonomy Legislative Award," co-hosted by the Korea Central Voters Association and the Forum for Local Autonomy, is presented to local council members nationwide who have demonstrated outstanding legislative activities and enacted excellent ordinances over the past year from the perspective of voters, thereby contributing to the development of local governance.
Chairman Jeon was recognized for his significant contributions to the advancement of local autonomy as a member of the 9th Gwangju Seo-gu Council, where he implemented resident-focused, practical legislative activities in the field and established a council culture centered around the local community.
He has taken the lead in creating a "warm care community" in which residents participate together, by fostering cooperation between the administration and the private sector to detect neighbors in crisis early and strengthen community-based, customized care services.
Chairman Jeon has also conducted hands-on legislative activities focused on the daily lives of residents, such as inspecting drainage systems in flood-prone areas, visiting traditional market merchants affected by fires to offer support, and encouraging staff at local welfare facilities by personally visiting sites to address various issues in district administration.
He also received high praise for enhancing the transparency of council activities and strengthening communication with residents by activating live broadcasts of the Seo-gu Council on YouTube and promoting the council through social media channels, thereby taking the lead in creating an open council.
Chairman Jeon stated, "As a servant of the residents, I have simply fulfilled my duty, so it is a great honor and a tremendous responsibility to receive this meaningful award directly from the voters."
He added, "This award is not for me personally, but thanks to the fellow council members who have worked together for the development of Seo-gu and the happiness of its residents, as well as the unwavering support from the people of Seo-gu. I will continue to listen to the voices of residents in the field with humility and do my utmost to make Seo-gu a place where everyone is happy."
Meanwhile, as a member of the 9th Seo-gu Council, Chairman Jeon has earned the trust of the local community through his diligent and responsible legislative activities, receiving multiple awards and commendations from various organizations and institutions, including the "Korea Local Legislative Service Award" at the 267th City and Provincial Representatives Meeting hosted by the Gwangju City Autonomous District Council Chairmen's Association in August, and winning four awards at the "Law Journal Local Legislative Awards."
